From relying on online shopping to getting doctors’ appointments via a video call, the pandemic brought a number of changes to us which has left a lasting impact. One reality is remote working.
More than 80% of GP appointments across the UK are held remotely since the pandemic with 1 in 3 GP practices doing more appointments remotely than face-to-face. Are you a remote GP? Or thinking of going remote? If so, it may take some adjusting.
Here are some tips on how to successfully work from home.
1: Keep your routine
Without steady schedules, the lines between work and personal time can get blurred. Having a set start and finish time as well as regular breaks [if you can] will help you to switch off from ‘work mode’, giving your brain the recovery time, it needs to avoid burn out and improved productivity.
2: Eat healthy and drink plenty
Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Have healthy snacks to fuel your brain to stop you reaching for those chocolate bars, we know they taste great, BUT they can cause you to crash and feel sluggish.
3: Be physically active
When you think about it, the time you would spend commuting can be used to exercise at home or at the gym. If possible, you could purchase a standing desk to avoid sitting in a place for too long or take a 10-minute walk during your break to refill your mental and physical energy.4:
4: Avoid screen time outside of working hours as much as possible
Giving your eyes a break will stop you developing visual fatigue and help optimise your sleep pattern, helping you get a good night’s sleep so you can feel refreshed and ready for the next day ahead!
5: Set boundaries
Make sure you set boundaries with other members of your household. Working from home can be great, but it can also be difficult if you have other distractions to deal with. Have a discussion with your family about your needs, remind them when you need quiet time and ensure they know your schedule to stop you being disturbed.
